Wells State Park Rte. 49, Sturbridge Wells State Park is a popular 1,400-acre woodland park. The two principal activities are camping and hiking. The campground has 60 attractive sites. Walker Pond provides a peaceful setting for fishing, canoeing, and swimming. The swimming beach is for campers' use only. During the summer, Wells has an interpretive program available which provides guided walks, hikes, recreational activities and evening campfire programs. Contact the park for a weekly schedule of events. This natural park is perfectly conducive for company outings and team building sessions. It is beneficial to individuals who want to escape the draining city life and for companies like investools that might want to hold activities to strengthen relationships among workers. http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/wvl/wvlhome.htm The dam at Westville Lake is situated on the Quinebaug River in the towns of Southbridge and Sturbridge, Massachusetts, approximately seven miles downstream from Old Sturbridge Village. The Westville Lake Recreation Area lies just outside downtown Southbridge, Massachusetts. The developed park includes a three acre athletic field enjoyed by softball and soccer enthusiasts as well as the occasional kite flyer. Several picnic tables and grills are situated throughout the recreation area. Two large picnic shelters accommodate group gatherings and can be reserved for a fee. The picnic shelters has multiple tables, two large grills, electrical outlets, and a wonderful view of the lake and dam. Anglers will find an abundance of warm water fish in the lake including large-mouth bass and panfish. The State of Massachusetts stocks the Quinebaug River above the dam with trout creating a popular fly-fishing location. For boating and canoeing enthusiasts, two boat launches provide easy access to the lake and the slow-moving portions of the river.
